I got bogged down in TREE OF SMOKE, not that I didn't enjoy the 100 pages that I read . . .
but just zipped through NOBODY MOVE, which is DJ in his essential stripped down style, and really, he has few peers in fiction today . . .
i think its his response to NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, but, without even one sympathetic character . . .
also, just read VERONICA by Mary Gaitskill, which contains a remarkable amount of prose virtuosity.
Tree of smoke took slogging through the jungle muck but it was worth it -- it's a Moby Dick for our era.
Will check out the other two.
